The Office of Grants and Contracts at Ashland Community and Technical College is an integral part of the college's overall mission. 

By helping the college to secure outside funding for various projects and initiatives, the Office of Grants and Contracts allows ACTC to offer more educational opportunities and services to the more than 3,000 students who enroll here every year. Among the duties of this office are:

  • Assisting ACTC faculty and staff in preparing grant applications;
  • Preparing grant applications on behalf of ACTC;
  • Evaluating funding opportunities;
  • Researching potential funding sources;
  • Obtaining all necessary administrative approvals for applications;
  • Instructing ACTC faculty and staff on grant basics;
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable federal and state laws regarding grant monies;
  • Administering various federal and state grants at ACTC;
  • Offering Lifelong Learning courses in grantwriting basics to the ACTC faculty and staff, and the community.

The Office of Grants and Contracts currently has oversight authority for more than $1.4 million in federal and state grant funds at ACTC, including:

  • Student Support Services, U.S. Dept. of Education, 2005 - 2010, $1.35 million;

  • Kentucky Campus Compact, Ready and Response Service Team (cooperative effort with Louisiana Campus Compact, 2007-2009, $19,500;

  • Kentucky Real Estate Commission, 2007-2008, $7,000;

  • Kentucky Humanities Council, 2007-2009, $8,900;

  • U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, 2007-2008, $65,963.

  • ACTC subscribes to the BIG Online grants database and also uses several other grants industry reference services to find federal, state and private foundation grant and funding opportunities. If you have an idea that may qualify for grant funds or if you have a search request, please e-mail Sarah Diamond Burroway (() and she will work with you to find prospects and narrow down the possibilities.

Ashland Community and Technical College also has an active Grant Committee, which is designed to provide assistance to faculty or staff working on various grant projects, review draft grants and potential grant applications, and provide oversight as needed on various projects. The current chairman is Marcia McDonald().
